“It’s All In My Head” – Art Journal page

Hi folks!  Today, I have been working in my large Dylusions art journal and began this page by prepping the paper with white gesso.

Step 1

To create the background, I used a trusty baby wipe and Docrafts Artiste acrylic paints in “Sea Spray” and “Sage”, applying the paint in an up and down motion.

Step 2

Taking the “Flourish” stencil by Tim Holtz, I applied some Distress Oxides in “Bundled Sage” and “Broken China” using a piece of cut and dry foam.  I then added some stamped detail with a coffee stains stamp and a script stamp (apologies, brands unknown) using some Archival Ink in “Cornflower Blue” and “Garden Patina” randomly over the page.

Step 3

I cut out and stuck to the page an image from the Steampunk Sourcebook of a lady’s head, before adding wavy lines coming out of her head, with a Pigma Micron 04 pen.  I then Zentangled and wrote some words of what drives me forward in life between these lines.  I added some details in white Signo gel pen, and also used some “Star Dust” Stickles and “Robin’s Egg” Liquid Pearls.

Step 4

I added some stencil detail around the lady’s face, to break up the stark outline of her head, using a TCW stencil called “Mini Well Rounded”.

Step 5

Using another TCW stencil called “Mini Butterfly Meadow”, I drew through the images of a couple of butterflies and a dragonfly, before colouring these in with my Pigma Micron pen and adding some antennae.

Step 6

Using a Finnabair stamp set, called “Don’t forget to fly” and some Archival “Jet Black” ink, I stamped the quote “dare to spread your wings” and also one of the butterflies, which I then coloured using some of the Broken China Distress Oxide and a waterbrush, before adding a coat of clear Wink of Stella to the silhouette images and also the blue butterfly.  I also added some Glossy Accents over the butterfly, to give it a bit more dimension.

Step 7

To finish, I edged the page with the black Archival ink.
