Sepia Seascape Card

After all the colour from my recent wall hanging, I decided that I wanted to a monochromatic vintage style project for a change.  As I already had the lighthouse stamp set out for my last project, I decided to use it to build up a sepia toned scene.

For the main panel of this card I used the smooth side of a piece of Ranger Watercolour Cardstock and added a mask from Clarity for the sun.

I smooshed some of the Vintage Photo ink onto my glass mat and added some water to water it down.

I then applied a wash of this ink onto the watercolour card using the larger brush.  I made the colour slightly deeper for the sea and I blotted some of the ink from the sky, to add some highlights here.  Once this was dried, I painted some more of the same watered-down ink randomly, to create some depth to the sea.  I then removed the mask and added a more watered-down layer of the Vintage Photo over the sun, so it didn’t stand out as much.

Using my Tim Holtz stamping platform, I stamped the images of the lighthouse and the boat onto the sepia background, again using the Vintage Photo.  Taking a smaller damp paintbrush, I activated the ink and pulled it across the images to colour them and give a watercolour effect to the images.

I added some clouds again using watered-down Vintage Photo and removed some of the ink from the tops of the clouds, to create highlights.

I stamped the 3 birds using the Vintage Photo and then activated the ink with a damp paintbrush to colour the images.

The sentiment was then stamped using the VersaFine (as I can guarantee that this will pick up all the fine details on the stamp).

Finally, using an ink blending tool, I added a vignette around the image using the Vintage Photo, before edging the card using the VersaFine to create a more defined border.

This panel was then mounted onto a square white card blank.
